वनान्युपवनानीह लङ्कायाः काननानि च ।
सर्वतो गृहमुख्यानि द्रष्टुमागमनम् हि मे ॥ ॥५-३-३४॥
vanānyupavanānīha laṅkāyāḥ kānanāni ca |
sarvato gṛhamukhyāni draṣṭumāgamanam hi me ॥5-3-34॥
Translation
"My arrival here is merely to observe the forests, groves, and gardens of Lanka, as well as the most prominent mansions situated everywhere."

मेरा आगमन यहाँ लंका के वनों, उपवनों, काननों (उद्यानों) और सब ओर स्थित मुख्य-मुख्य भवनों को देखने के लिए ही हुआ है।
English Commentary
Hanuman expands on his cover story, expressing interest in both nature (vanāni - forests) and architecture (gṛhamukhyāni - chief houses). While this serves as a plausible excuse for a monkey to visit a new land, the mention of "prominent mansions" subtly hints at his true mission: locating Sita, who would likely be held in a high-security or royal area. By framing his intent around sightseeing, he attempts to normalize his presence at the gates, further showcasing his strategic restraint and eloquence.

हनुमान जी अपने वक्तव्य को और विस्तार देते हैं। वे प्रकृति (वन, उपवन) और स्थापत्य (गृहमुख्यानि) दोनों में रुचि दिखाते हैं। 'गृहमुख्यानि' (मुख्य भवन) कहने में एक गुप्त संकेत भी है, क्योंकि उन्हें सीता जी की खोज करनी है, जो संभवतः किसी मुख्य राजमहल या अशोक वाटिका जैसे विशिष्ट स्थान पर ही होंगी। एक साधारण वानर के लिए वनों में रुचि होना स्वाभाविक है, इसलिए यह तर्क लंकिनी को विश्वास दिलाने के लिए उपयुक्त था। यह श्लोक हनुमान जी की वाक्पटुता का प्रमाण है।
