तस्य तद्वचनम् श्रुत्वा लङ्का सा कामरूपिणी ।
भूय एव पुनर्वाक्यम् बभाषे परुषाक्षरम् ॥ ॥५-३-३५॥
tasya tadvacanam śrutvā laṅkā sā kāmarūpiṇī |
bhūya eva punarvākyam babhāṣe paruṣākṣaram ॥5-3-35॥
Translation
Hearing those words of his, that Lanka (the guardian deity), capable of assuming any form at will, once again spoke sentences filled with harsh words.

हनुमान के उस वचन को सुनकर, इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाली वह लंका (लंकिनी) फिर से कठोर अक्षरों वाला वाक्य बोली।
English Commentary
Despite Hanuman’s polite explanation, Lankini remains unmoved. The text describes her as kāmarūpiṇī (shape-shifter) and her speech as paruṣākṣaram (harsh letters/words), highlighting the aggressive nature inherent to the Rakshasa culture she guards. This juxtaposition emphasizes the clash between Sattvic (pure/calm) and Tamasic (dark/aggressive) forces. While Hanuman seeks passage through humility, Lankini interprets his presence as a violation, setting the stage for the unavoidable physical confrontation.

हनुमान जी की विनम्रता का लंकिनी पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ा। 'कामरूपिणी' शब्द बताता है कि वह मायावी शक्तियों से युक्त थी और लंका की राक्षसी प्रवृत्ति का प्रतिनिधित्व करती थी। 'परुषाक्षरम्' (कठोर वचन) दर्शाता है कि राक्षसी बुद्धि में विनम्रता का स्थान नहीं होता। यह श्लोक सात्विक शक्ति (हनुमान) और तामसिक शक्ति (लंकिनी) के बीच के अंतर को स्पष्ट करता है। जहाँ हनुमान जी शांति का मार्ग खोज रहे हैं, वहीं लंकिनी संघर्ष को आमंत्रण दे रही है। यह आसन्न युद्ध की भूमिका है।
