ततः स कपिशार्दूलस्तामुवाच निशाचरीम् ।
दृष्वा पुरीमिमाम् भद्रे पुनर्यास्ये यथागतम् ॥ ॥५-३-३७॥
tataḥ sa kapiśārdūlastāmuvāca niśācarīm |
dṛṣṭvā purīmimām bhadre punaryāsye yathāgatam ॥5-3-37॥
Translation
Then, that tiger among monkeys (Hanuman) said to the night-roaming demoness: "O gentle lady, after seeing this city, I shall return exactly as I came."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उन कपिशार्दूल (वानरश्रेष्ठ) ने उस निशाचरी से कहा—"हे भद्रे! इस पुरी को देख लेने पर जैसे आया हूँ, वैसे ही पुनः लौट जाऊंगा।"
English Commentary
In the face of grave insults, Hanuman responds with supreme composure, addressing her as bhadre (O gentle/auspicious one). This demonstrates his unwavering adherence to Dharma and his immense patience. The epithet kapiśārdūla (tiger among monkeys) reminds the reader that his politeness stems from strength, not fear. He reiterates his plan to simply look and leave (yathāgatam - as I came), giving the guardian one last chance to let him pass peacefully. This highlights the contrast between the cultured behavior of Hanuman and the barbarism of Lanka.

गालियों और धमकियों के बदले में हनुमान जी का उत्तर देखिए—वे उसे 'भद्रे' (कल्याणमयी/सज्जन देवी) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। यह हनुमान जी के चरित्र की महानता और धैर्य की पराकाष्ठा है। वे अभी भी युद्ध टालना चाहते हैं। 'कपिशार्दूल' (वानरों में सिंह समान) विशेषण कवि ने इसलिए प्रयोग किया है ताकि हम समझ सकें कि हनुमान डरकर विनम्र नहीं हो रहे, बल्कि यह उनकी शक्ति का संयम है। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि उनका इरादा बसने या नुकसान पहुँचाने का नहीं, बल्कि लौट जाने का है।
