Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
समये सौम्य तिष्ठन्ति सत्त्ववन्तो महाबलाः ।
अहं तु नगरी लङ्का स्वयमेव प्लवङ्गम ॥ ॥५-३-४५॥
Samaye saumya tiṣṭhanti sattvavanto mahābalāḥ । Ahaṃ tu nagarī laṅkā svayameva plavaṅgama ॥ ॥5-3-45॥
Translation
O gentle Monkey, the mighty ones endowed with the quality of goodness (Sattva) always abide by the proper time and limits. I am the City of Lanka herself, standing here in person.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सौम्य वानर! महाबली और सत्वगुण से युक्त पुरुष सदा उचित समय (मर्यादा) में स्थित रहते हैं। मैं स्वयं लंका नगरी हूँ (जो शरीर धारण करके यहाँ उपस्थित हूँ)।
English Commentary
This verse marks a pivotal moment where the personified deity of Lanka, Lankini, undergoes a transformation. After being struck by Hanuman, her arrogance is shattered, and she recognizes the superior spiritual standing of her adversary. By addressing Hanuman as 'Saumya' (gentle one), she acknowledges that true strength lies not in aggression but in composure and adherence to Sattva (purity/truth). The phrase 'Samaye tishthanti' suggests that great beings abide by cosmic timing and moral boundaries. Lankini reveals her true identity as the city itself, signifying that Hanuman has not just defeated a guard, but has symbolically conquered the city's protective spirit. This admission sets the stage for the fall of Ravana, as the city's very soul accepts defeat before the physical battle has even begun. It illustrates the Vedic principle that physical victory is preceded by spiritual or moral victory.

यहाँ लंकिनी का हृदय परिवर्तन स्पष्ट दिखाई देता है। हनुमान जी के एक प्रहार से ही लंकिनी का अहंकार चूर हो गया और उसे ब्रह्मदेव की भविष्यवाणी स्मरण हो आई। 'समये' शब्द यहाँ अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसका अर्थ है 'उचित काल' या 'मर्यादा'। लंकिनी हनुमान जी को 'सौम्य' संबोधित करती है, जो उनकी शक्ति के साथ-साथ उनके संयमित व्यवहार की प्रशंसा है। वह स्वीकार करती है कि वास्तव में बलवान वही है जो अपनी शक्ति का दुरुपयोग नहीं करता बल्कि धर्म और सत्य (सत्व) में स्थित रहता है। वह अपना परिचय देती है कि वह कोई साधारण राक्षसी नहीं, बल्कि लंका की अधिष्ठात्री देवी है। यह श्लोक दर्शाता है कि जब सात्विक शक्ति (हनुमान) तामसिक शक्ति (लंका) पर विजय प्राप्त करती है, तो तामसिक शक्ति नतमस्तक होकर सत्य को स्वीकार कर लेती है। लंकिनी का यह कथन हनुमान जी के 'सत्व' गुण की विजय का प्रतीक है।
