भुजग आचरिताम् गुप्ताम् शुभाम् भोगवतीम् इव ।
ताम् सविद्युत् घन आकीर्णाम् ज्योतिः मार्ग निषेविताम् ॥५-३-५॥
bhujaga ācaritām guptām śubhām bhogavatīm iva |
tām savidyut ghana ākīrṇām jyotiḥ mārga niṣevitām ॥5-3-5॥
Translation
That auspicious city was well-protected and inhabited by Rakshasas just as Bhogavati is by serpents. It reached up to the path of the stars, seemingly filled with clouds and lightning.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सर्पों से सेवित और सुरक्षित पाताल की सुंदर 'भोगवती' पुरी की भांति वह नगरी (राक्षसों से) सुरक्षित थी। विद्युत सहित बादलों से व्याप्त आकाश (ज्योतिर्गण-मार्ग) तक वह ऊंची उठी हुई थी (या आकाश में स्थित थी)।
English Commentary
The simile of 'Bhogavati' is ominous. Bhogavati is the subterranean capital of the Nagas (serpents), implying a place of hidden dangers, immense wealth, and lethal guards. By comparing the Rakshasas to serpents, the text highlights their treacherous and deadly nature. The reference to lightning and clouds again emphasizes the verticality of the city—its towers piercing the sky/star-path ('jyotih marga'), symbolizing Ravana's pride and ambition to dominate the heavens.

यहाँ लंका की सुरक्षा की तुलना पाताल लोक की राजधानी 'भोगवती' से की गई है। जैसे भोगवती जहरीले और शक्तिशाली नागों द्वारा रक्षित है, वैसे ही लंका क्रूर राक्षसों द्वारा। 'भुजग' (सर्प) यहाँ राक्षसों के लिए रूपक हो सकता है जो गुप्त रूप से वार करते हैं और खतरनाक हैं। 'सविद्युत् घन आकीर्णाम्' भवनों की ऊंचाई दर्शाता है जो बादलों और बिजली को छू रहे थे, या यह लंका की आभा का वर्णन हो सकता है जो बिजली की चमक जैसी थी।
