उद्देशे नष्टमार्गे ऽस्मिन् राक्षसैः परिवारिते ।
सागरेण परिक्षिप्ते गुप्त वसति जानकी ।

uddeśe naṣṭamārge 'smin rākṣasaiḥ parivārite । sāgareṇa parikṣipte gupta vasati jānakī । । 5.30.31।। ॥5-30-31॥
Translation
This location is one where the path is lost (hard to find), surrounded by Rakshasas on all sides and guarded by the ocean. Here, Janaki lives in secrecy (captivity).

यह स्थान (लंका) ऐसा है जहाँ का मार्ग ढूँढना असम्भव है, यह चारों ओर से राक्षसों से घिरा हुआ है और समुद्र से सुरक्षित है। यहाँ जानकी जी बहुत गुप्त रूप से (कैद में) रहती हैं।
English Commentary
Hanuman analyzes the geographical and strategic complexity of the situation. The term 'nashtamarge' (where the path is lost) indicates that reaching Lanka is impossible for ordinary beings. Sita is held in a fortress that is impregnable both naturally (by the ocean) and militarily (by Rakshasas). Hanuman reflects that if something were to happen to Sita now, it is unlikely anyone else could ever reach this spot again. This verse underscores the extreme isolation and helplessness surrounding Mother Sita, thereby amplifying the gravity of Hanuman’s responsibility.
