Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कामं हन्तुं समर्थो ऽस्मि सहस्राण्यपि रक्षसाम् ।
नतु शक्ष्यामि संप्राप्तुं परं पारं महोदधेः ।

५.३०.३४।। ॥५-३०-३४॥
kāmaṃ hantuṃ samartho 'smi sahasrāṇyapi rakṣasām । natu śakṣyāmi saṃprāptuṃ paraṃ pāraṃ mahodadheḥ । । 5.30.34।। ॥5-30-34॥
Translation
I am indeed capable of killing thousands of Rakshasas at will, but (after such a battle) I might not be able to reach the other shore of the great ocean.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं इच्छा अनुसार हजारों राक्षसों को मारने में समर्थ हूँ, परन्तु (युद्ध के बाद) मैं महासागर के उस पार लौटने में सक्षम नहीं हो सकूँगा।
English Commentary
A true warrior knows his limits. Hanuman acknowledges that he could win a battle against thousands, but crossing the ocean again while exhausted or wounded might be impossible. His primary objective is not to conquer Lanka single-handedly, but to deliver news of Sita to Rama. Even if he wins the fight but falls into the ocean on the return trip, the mission is a failure. Here, Hanuman prioritizes 'karya-siddhi' (success of the mission) over 'shaurya' (mere display of valor), which is the mark of an excellent envoy.
हिंदी टीका
एक सच्चा योद्धा अपनी सीमाओं को भी जानता है। हनुमान जी कहते हैं कि वे युद्ध जीत सकते हैं, लेकिन युद्ध की थकान और घावों के साथ वापस समुद्र लांघना शायद संभव न हो। उनका उद्देश्य लंका को जीतना नहीं, बल्कि सीता का समाचार राम तक पहुँचाना है। यदि वे युद्ध जीत भी गए लेकिन वापसी में समुद्र में गिर गए, तो 'मिशन' विफल ही माना जाएगा। यहाँ हनुमान जी 'शौर्य' ( वीरता) के ऊपर 'कार्य-सिद्धि' (लक्ष्य प्राप्ति) को प्राथमिकता दे रहे हैं, जो एक उत्तम दूत का लक्षण है।
