को नु पुत्रः पिता भ्राता भर्ता वा ते सुमध्यमे ।
अस्माल्लोकादमुं लोकं गतं त्वमनुशोचसि ।

Ko nu putraḥ pitā bhrātā bhartā vā te sumadhyame । Asmāllokādamuṃ lokaṃ gataṃ tvamanuśocasi । 。 ॥5-33-10॥
Translation
O slender-waisted one! Who is it—your son, father, brother, or husband—who has gone from this world to the other, for whom you are grieving?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सुमध्यमे (सुंदर कटि वाली)! तुम्हारा कौन सा पुत्र, पिता, भाई अथवा पति इस लोक से परलोक सिधार गया है, जिसके लिए तुम (इतना) शोक कर रही हो?
English Commentary
Hanuman shifts from mythological speculation to grounding reality. He asks if she is mourning a death ('Gatam tvam anushocasi'). This is a probing question. He needs to know the cause of her tears. If she reveals she is mourning a living husband separated from her, his identity verification will be complete. It touches on the universal human experience of grief over loss.

अब हनुमान जी देवताओं की बातें छोड़कर सीधे मानवीय दुःख पर आते हैं। वे पूछते हैं कि क्या किसी प्रियजन की मृत्यु हो गयी है? यह प्रश्न सीता के विलाप का कारण जानने के लिए है। यदि सीता कहती हैं कि 'मेरे पति नहीं रहे', तो हनुमान समझ जाएंगे कि वे सीता नहीं हैं (क्योंकि राम जीवित हैं)। यह एक मनोवैज्ञानिक परीक्षण भी है। 'सुमध्यमे' एक सौंदर्यबोधक संबोधन है जो सीता की कृशकाय अवस्था को भी ध्वनित करता है।
