तस्मिन् संभ्रियमाणे तु राघवस्याभिषेचने ।
कैकेयी नाम भर्तारं देवी वचनमब्रवीत् ।

Tasmin saṃbhriyamāṇe tu rāghavasyābhiṣecane |
Kaikeyī nāma bhartāraṃ devī vacanamabravīt ॥5-33-20॥
Translation
While the preparations for Raghava's consecration were being made, the queen named Kaikeyi spoke these words to her husband.

राघव के राज्याभिषेक की वह तैयारी होने पर, कैकेयी नाम की देवी ने अपने पति से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Sita introduces the catalyst of the tragedy. Just as the preparations were gathering momentum, Queen Kaikeyi intervened. Remarkably, Sita still refers to Kaikeyi as Devi (Queen/Goddess), maintaining respectful address despite Kaikeyi being the architect of her misery. This demonstrates Sita's unwavering adherence to dharma and familial respect. The verse freezes the moment in time where the celebration was interrupted by a fateful conversation between the King and his favorite wife.

यहाँ सीता जी घटनाक्रम में आए विघ्न का परिचय देती हैं। जब तैयारियाँ जोरों पर थीं (संभ्रियमाणे), तब कैकेयी ने हस्तक्षेप किया। सीता जी यहाँ कैकेयी के लिए 'देवी' शब्द का प्रयोग करती हैं, जो उनकी मर्यादा को दर्शाता है; वे अपनी सौतेली सास के प्रति कड़वाहट रखने के बावजूद सम्मानसूचक शब्दों का त्याग नहीं करतीं। यह श्लोक एक ऐतिहासिक क्षण को दर्शाता है जहाँ एक पत्नी (कैकेयी) द्वारा अपने पति (दशरथ) को कहे गए वचनों ने पूरे रघुकुल का भाग्य बदल दिया।
