स राजा सत्यवाग् देव्या वरदानमनुस्मरन् ।
मुमोह वचनं श्रुत्वा कैकेय्याः क्रूरमप्रियम् ।

॥५-३३-२३॥
Sa rājā satyavāg devyā varadānamanusmaran |
Mumoha vacanaṃ śrutvā kaikeyiyāḥ krūramapriyam ॥5-33-23॥
Translation
Remembering the boon granted to the queen, that truth-speaking King fainted upon hearing Kaikeyi's cruel and unpleasant words.

सत्यवादी राजा उस देवी (कैकेयी) को दिए हुए वरदान का स्मरण करके, कैकेयी के क्रूर और अप्रिय वचन सुनकर मूर्छित हो गए।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the tragic helplessness of King Dasharatha. Being satyavāg (one whose word is truth), he was trapped by his own integrity. The recollection of the boons, combined with Kaikeyi’s krūram (cruel) and apriyam (unpleasant) demands, was too much for his heart to bear, causing him to faint (mumoha). Sita’s narration emphasizes the shock and trauma of that moment. It illustrates the devastating power of the spoken word, which brought a mighty emperor to his knees, bound by the chains of his own righteousness.

यहाँ राजा दशरथ की विवशता का चित्रण है। वे 'सत्यवाग्' (सत्य बोलने वाले) हैं, इसलिए वे प्रतिज्ञा नहीं तोड़ सकते। जैसे ही उन्हें वरदान की याद आई और उन्होंने कैकेयी की 'क्रूर' मांग सुनी, वे यह आघात सहन नहीं कर सके और मूर्छित (मुमोह) हो गए। सीता जी द्वारा 'क्रूरमप्रियम्' (क्रूर और अप्रिय) शब्दों का चयन यह बताता है कि यह घटना उनके मन पर कितनी गहरी चोट कर गई थी। एक महान चक्रवर्ती राजा का अपनी पत्नी के वचनों से मूर्छित होना उस समय के भारी तनाव को दर्शाता है।
