दद्यान्न प्रतिगृह्णीयान्न ब्रूयात् किंचिदप्रियम् ।
अपि जीवितहेतोर्वा रामः सत्यपराक्रमः ।
।
॥५-३३-२६॥
Dadyānna pratigṛhṇīyānna brūyāt kiṃcidapriyam । Api jīvitahetorvā Rāmaḥ satyaparākramaḥ । । ॥5-33-26॥
Translation
He gives and does not take; he does not speak harsh words to anyone, not even for the sake of saving his own life. Rama is truly one whose valor is truth.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे (राम) केवल देना जानते हैं, लेना नहीं; वे कभी किसी से अप्रिय वचन नहीं बोलते, यहाँ तक कि अपने जीवन की रक्षा के लिए भी नहीं। वे राम सत्यपराक्रमी हैं।
English Commentary
Sita delineates the core ethical pillars of Rama’s personality here. He is described as the ultimate giver, adhering to the principle of charity rather than receiving. The phrase Satyaparakrama (one whose valor is truth) is significant; it implies that his strength is derived not just from physical might, but from his adherence to truth. Sita asserts that even when faced with existential threats ("for the sake of life"), Rama would never compromise his dignity by speaking harshly or untruthfully. This portrays him as the embodiment of Dharma, unwavering even in the face of death.
