Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स विहायोत्तरीयाणि महार्हाणि महायशाः ।
विसृज्य मनसा राज्यं जनन्यै मां समादिशत् ।
॥५-३३-२७॥
Sa vihāyottarīyāṇi mahārhāṇi mahāyaśāḥ । Visṛjya manasā rājyaṃ jananyai māṃ samādiśat । ॥5-33-27॥
Translation
That highly illustrious one cast aside his expensive upper garments, mentally renounced the kingdom, and instructed me regarding his mother (to serve her).
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन महायशस्वी (राम) ने अपने बहुमूल्य उत्तरीय (राजसी वस्त्र) उतार दिए, मन से राज्य का त्याग कर दिया और मुझे अपनी माता (कौशल्या) की सेवा करने का आदेश दिया।
English Commentary
This verse captures the moment of transition from Prince to Ascetic. The "highly illustrious" Rama is shown physically discarding his royal robes, representing the external renunciation. However, the phrase manasa rajyam visrjya (renouncing the kingdom with his mind) indicates a deeper spiritual detachment; he did not carry the weight of the lost crown in his heart. The verse also references the initial conversation where Rama instructed Sita to stay behind and care for his mother, Kausalya, highlighting his concern for his parents' well-being even amidst his own crisis.

यह श्लोक राम के वैराग्य का वर्णन करता है। वन गमन के समय उन्होंने राजसी वस्त्रों का त्याग कर दिया, लेकिन इससे भी बड़ी बात यह है कि उन्होंने "मनसा राज्यं विसृज्य"—मन से राज्य के मोह को त्याग दिया। भौतिक वस्तुओं का त्याग आसान है, परंतु मानसिक आसक्ति का त्याग कठिन है। यहाँ "मां समादिशत्" का संदर्भ यह है कि प्रारंभ में राम सीता को वन ले जाने के पक्ष में नहीं थे; उन्होंने सीता को अयोध्या में रहकर माता कौशल्या की सेवा करने का निर्देश दिया था (जिसे बाद में सीता के आग्रह पर बदल दिया गया)।
