वसतो दणऽडकारण्ये तस्याहममितौजसः ।
रक्षसा ऽपहृता भार्या रावणेन दुरात्मना ।

Vasato daṇḍakāraṇye tasyāhamamitaujasaḥ । Rakṣasā 'pahṛtā bhāryā Rāvaṇena durātmanā । । ॥5-33-31॥
Translation
While living in the Dandaka forest, I, the wife of that one of immeasurable energy, was abducted by the evil-souled demon Ravana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दंडकारण्य में रहते हुए, उन अमित तेजस्वी (राम) की मुझ पत्नी का दुरात्मा राक्षस रावण ने अपहरण कर लिया।
English Commentary
Sita succinctly summarizes the tragic turning point of their exile. She juxtaposes Rama against Ravana using powerful adjectives. Rama is Amitaujas (of unmeasured power/splendor), reinforcing her faith that he is not weak. Ravana is simply Duratman (evil-souled). By stating she was abducted while they lived in Dandaka, she sets the scene for Hanuman to understand how she arrived in Lanka. It is a factual statement of her victimization, devoid of self-pity but laden with the recognition of the evil nature of her captor.

सीता जी अपनी कथा को संक्षिप्त करते हुए सीधे अपहरण के प्रसंग पर आती हैं। यहाँ विरोधाभास (contrast) दर्शनीय है। एक ओर राम हैं जो "अमितौजसः" (असीम तेज और शक्ति वाले) हैं, और दूसरी ओर रावण है जो "दुरात्मना" (दुष्ट आत्मा वाला) है। सीता यह स्पष्ट कर रही हैं कि उनका अपहरण राम की कमजोरी के कारण नहीं हुआ (क्योंकि वे अमित ओज वाले हैं), बल्कि रावण के कपट और दुष्टता के कारण हुआ जब राम आश्रम में नहीं थे। यह श्लोक उनकी वर्तमान पीड़ा का मूल कारण बताता है।
