तामशोकस्य शाखां सा विमुक्ता शोककर्शिता ।
तस्यामेवानवद्याङ्गी धरण्यां समुपाविशत् ।
।
॥५-३४-११॥
Tāmaśokasya śākhāṃ sā vimuktā śokakarśitā । Tasyāmevānavadyāṅgī dharaṇyāṃ samupāviśat । । ॥5-34-11॥
Translation
Letting go of that branch of the Ashoka tree, she, of faultless limbs but emaciated by grief, sank down onto the earth right there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
शोक से दुर्बल हुई उस अनिंद्य सुन्दरी (सीता) ने उस अशोक वृक्ष की शाखा को छोड़ दिया और वहीं धरती पर बैठ गईं।
English Commentary
The physical manifestation of her terror is described here. Overcome by the realization (however false) that she is facing Ravana, her strength fails her. She releases her grip on the Ashoka branch—her only physical support—and collapses onto the bare ground. The contrast between her being anavadyangi (flawless limbed/royal) and sitting helplessly in the dirt underscores her pitiful condition. It represents a moment of total defeat in her mind, thinking her hope was a cruel illusion.

यह श्लोक भय की शारीरिक प्रतिक्रिया को दिखाता है। अभी तक सीता जी अशोक की डाल पकड़े खड़ी थीं (बातचीत करने के लिए), लेकिन रावण का संदेह होते ही उनके पैरों की शक्ति क्षीण हो गई। "विमुक्ता" (छोड़ दिया) और "समुपाविशत्" (बैठ गईं/गिर पड़ीं) — यह हताशा और आत्मसमर्पण (give up) की मुद्रा है। वे अब भागने या बात करने की स्थिति में नहीं हैं, बस भय से धरती पर निढाल हो गई हैं। "अनवद्याङ्गी" (दोषरहित अंगों वाली) विशेषण उनकी कोमलता और इस कठोर स्थिति के विरोधाभास को उभारता है।
