हमुमानपि दुःखार्तां तां दृष्ट्वा भयमोहिताम् ।
अवन्दत महाबाहुस्ततस्तां जनकात्मजाम् ।
सा चैनं भयवित्रस्ता भूयो नैवाभ्युदैक्षत ।

Hanumānapi duḥkhārtāṃ tāṃ dṛṣṭvā bhayamohitām । Avandata mahābāhustathastāṃ janakātmajām । Sā cainaṃ bhayavitrastā bhūyo naivābhyudaikṣata । । ॥5-34-12॥
Translation
Seeing that daughter of Janaka tormented by grief and deluded by fear, the mighty-armed Hanuman bowed to her. But she, terrified with fear, did not look at him again.

उस जनकनन्दिनी को दुःख से पीड़ित और भय से मोहित (बेसुध) देखकर, महाबाहु हनुमान ने उन्हें प्रणाम किया। किन्तु भय से डरी हुई सीता ने उनकी ओर आँख उठाकर देखा तक नहीं।
English Commentary
Hanuman realizes his approach has backfired. Seeing her paralyzed by fear (bhaya-mohitam), he tries to de-escalate the situation through a gesture of submission—bowing down (avandata). The epithet Mahabahu (mighty-armed) is used ironically here; his strength is useless against her fear; only gentleness will work. Sita’s reaction—refusing to even look at him (naiva abhyudaikshata)—indicates she has shut down completely to protect her psyche from the "demon."

हनुमान जी स्थिति को भांप गए। उन्होंने देखा कि सीता "भयमोहिताम्" (डर से भ्रमित) हैं। अपनी निरपराधता और सम्मान प्रकट करने के लिए उन्होंने "अवन्दत"—विनम्रता से प्रणाम किया। लेकिन सीता का डर इतना गहरा था ("भयवित्रस्ता") कि उन्होंने हनुमान की ओर देखने का साहस भी नहीं किया। वे अपनी आँखें मूंदकर या चेहरा फेरकर बैठ गईं। यह एक संचार-अंतराल (communication gap) है जिसे भरना हनुमान के लिए बड़ी चुनौती थी।
