मायां प्रविष्टो मायावी यदि त्वं रावणः स्वयम् ।
उत्पादयसि मे भूयः सन्तापं तन्न शोभनम् ।
।
॥५-३४-१४॥
Māyāṃ praviṣṭo māyāvī yadi tvaṃ Rāvaṇaḥ svayam । Utpādayasi me bhūyaḥ santāpaṃ tanna śobhanam । । ॥5-34-14॥
Translation
"If you are indeed that Ravana himself, the master of illusion, having entered into a disguise, and are causing me grief again, then that is not good."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यदि तुम मायावी रावण हो और माया का आश्रय लेकर (वानर रूप में) स्वयं आए हो और मुझे पुनः संताप दे रहे हो, तो यह अच्छा नहीं है।"
English Commentary
Sita articulates her fear directly: "Are you Ravana using Maya?" She confronts the possibility that this is a cruel psychological game. Her statement "that is not good" (tanna shobhanam) is a dignified rebuke. It implies that tormenting a captive with false hope about her husband is a sin greater than the abduction itself. She appeals to the tormentor's sense of propriety, however scant it might be.

सीता जी सीधे-सीधे अपने संदेह को व्यक्त करती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि यदि तुम रावण हो और राम की झूठी कथा सुनाकर मेरी भावनाओं से खेल रहे हो, तो "तन्न शोभनम्" (यह उचित नहीं है/शोभा नहीं देता)। वे उसे फटकार नहीं रहीं, बल्कि उसकी अंतरात्मा (यदि है) को झकझोर रही हैं कि एक दुखी स्त्री को और सताना कायरता है। यह उनकी निर्भीकता और सत्यनिष्ठा का प्रतीक है।
