कल्याणी बत गाथेयं लौकिकी प्रतिभाति मा ।
एति जीवन्तमानन्दो नरं वर्षशतादपि ।
।

Kalyāṇī bata gātheyaṃ laukikī pratibhāti mā । Eti jīvantamānando naraṃ varṣaśatādapi । । ॥5-34-6॥
Translation
"Alas/Ah! This common folk saying appears true and auspicious to me: 'Joy comes to a living man, even if it be after a hundred years.'"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"अहो! यह लौकिक कहावत मुझे सत्य और कल्याणकारी प्रतीत होती है कि 'यदि मनुष्य जीवित रहे, तो सौ वर्ष के बाद भी उसे आनंद की प्राप्ति हो सकती है'।"
English Commentary
This is one of the most quoted verses of the Valmiki Ramayana, embodying the philosophy of eternal hope. Sita cites a laukiki gatha (folk saying): "Joy comes to the living, even after a hundred years." It marks a philosophical turning point for her. She realizes the value of endurance. Had she given up her life moments ago, she would have missed this joy. It serves as a universal maxim that endurance through suffering is eventually rewarded, and life itself holds the potential for redemption as long as it lasts.

यह रामायण के सबसे प्रसिद्ध और आशावादी श्लोकों में से एक है। सीता जी एक लोक-कहावत (proverb) को याद करती हैं। "एति जीवन्तमानन्दो" — अर्थात जब तक श्वास है, तब तक आस है। घोर निराशा के क्षणों में राम का समाचार मिलना उन्हें इस सत्य का अनुभव कराता है कि जीवन का अंत कभी नहीं करना चाहिए, क्योंकि सुख का सूर्य कभी भी उग सकता है, चाहे कितनी भी देर (सौ वर्ष) क्यों न हो जाए। यह श्लोक आत्महत्या के विरुद्ध और जीवन के संघर्ष के पक्ष में एक महान संदेश है।
