Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रक्षिता जीवलोकस्य स्वरजनस्याभिरक्षिता ।
रक्षिता स्वस्य वृत्तस्य धर्मस्य च परन्तपः ।
।
॥५-३५-१०॥
Rakshita jivalokasya svajanasyabhirakshita |
Rakshita svasya vrittasya dharmasya cha parantapah ॥5-35-10॥
Translation
He is the protector of the living world, and the special guardian of his own people. He protects his own conduct (character) and Dharma, and is the scorcher of foes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे (समस्त) जीवलोक के रक्षक हैं, अपने स्वजनों की विशेष रूप से रक्षा करने वाले हैं। वे अपने चरित्र (वृत्त) और धर्म की रक्षा करने वाले तथा शत्रुओं को संताप देने वाले (परंतप) हैं।
English Commentary
This verse emphasizes Rama as the Ultimate Protector. He protects four things: The world at large (Jivaloka). His own kin (Svajana)—implicitly assuring Sita of her safety. His own character (Vritta)—he is incorruptible. Dharma (Righteousness). Calling him 'Parantapa' (destroyer of enemies) balances his protective nature with his destructive capability against evil, reassuring Sita that his kindness does not make him weak.

यहाँ राम के 'रक्षक' रूप पर जोर दिया गया है। वे केवल राजा नहीं, बल्कि 'जीवलोक' के रक्षक हैं। 'स्वजनस्य अभिरक्षिता' कहकर हनुमान सीता को इशारा कर रहे हैं कि वे भी राम की 'स्वजन' हैं, अतः उनकी रक्षा निश्चित है। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात, राम 'स्वस्य वृत्तस्य रक्षिता' हैं—वे अपने चरित्र की रक्षा प्राणपण से करते हैं। 'परंतप' (शत्रुनाशक) विशेषण रावण के लिए चेतावनी है। यह श्लोक राम के क्षत्रिय धर्म और नैतिक दृढ़ता का प्रमाण है।
