Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
राजविद्याविनीतश्च ब्राह्मणानामुपासिता ।
श्रुतवान् शीलसम्पन्नो विनीतश्च परन्तपः ।
।
॥५-३५-१३॥
Rājavidyāvinītaśca brāhmaṇānāmupāsitā |
Śrutavān śīlasampanno vinītaśca parantapaḥ ॥5-35-13॥
Translation
He is well-trained in the royal sciences (statecraft) and is a worshipper of the wise (Brahmins). He is deeply learned in scriptures, possesses excellent character, is humble, yet is a scorcher of enemies.

वे राजनीति (राजविद्या) में निपुण हैं और ब्राह्मणों (ज्ञानियों) की सेवा करने वाले हैं। वे शास्त्रज्ञ (श्रुतवान), उत्तम शील से संपन्न, विनम्र और शत्रुओं को संताप देने वाले (परंतप) हैं।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the perfect duality required of a monarch. Rama is described as Rajavidyavinita, meaning he is schooled in the subtle arts of governance and diplomacy. However, his power does not breed arrogance; he remains a servant to the wise (Brahmananam upasita). He possesses Shruta (scriptural knowledge) and Shila (good conduct). The brilliance of this description lies in juxtaposing Vinita (humble) with Parantapa (scorcher of foes). It reassures Sita that while Rama is gentle and pious by nature, he possesses the terrifying martial capability required to destroy her captors.

इस श्लोक में राम के 'शत्रुदमन' और 'विनम्रता' के अद्भुत संतुलन को दिखाया गया है। 'राजविद्याविनीत' का अर्थ है कि उन्हें शासन करने की कला और कूटनीति का पूर्ण ज्ञान है। एक ओर वे ज्ञानियों और ब्राह्मणों के आगे मस्तक झुकाते हैं (उपासिता), और दूसरी ओर वे 'परंतप' हैं, अर्थात युद्ध के मैदान में शत्रुओं के लिए काल समान हैं। यह विरोधाभास ही एक आदर्श राजा की पहचान है—अंदर से कोमल और बाहर से वज्र जैसा कठोर। उनका 'शील' (आचरण) ही उनकी सबसे बड़ी संपत्ति है, जो उन्हें जनमानस का प्रिय बनाती है।
