Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विपुलांसो महाबाहुः कम्बুগ्रीवः शुभाननः ।
गूढजत्रुः सुताम्राक्षो रामो देवि जनैः श्रुतः ।

Vipulāṃso mahābāhuḥ kambugrīvaḥ śubhānanaḥ |
Gūḍhajatruḥ sutāmrākṣo rāmo devi janaiḥ śrutaḥ ॥5-35-15॥
Translation
O Devi! He has broad shoulders, mighty arms, a neck shaped like a conch shell, and an auspicious countenance. His collarbones are concealed (by muscles), and his eyes have a beautiful copper-red hue. He is celebrated among the people by the name 'Rama'.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवी! उनके कंधे चौड़े (पुष्ट) हैं, भुजाएँ विशाल हैं, गर्दन शंख के समान (सुडौल) है और मुख अत्यंत सुंदर है। उनकी हँसली की हड्डी मांस से ढकी हुई (गूढ) है और नेत्र तांबे के समान रक्तवर्ण (अरुण) हैं। लोगों में वे 'राम' नाम से विख्यात हैं।
English Commentary
Hanuman begins describing Rama's physical features according to Samudrika Shastra (the ancient science of physiognomy), which identifies the signs of a Great Man (Mahapurusha). Mahabahu (long arms reaching the knees) signifies one capable of protecting the world. A Kambugriva (conch-shell neck) and Gudhajatru (hidden collarbones) indicate robustness and nobility, showing he is not emaciated but powerful. The Sutamraksha (copper-red eyes) is a sign of passion, vitality, and royalty. By listing these intimate physical details, Hanuman offers proof of his identity to Sita.

यहाँ से हनुमान जी 'सामुद्रिक शास्त्र' के अनुसार महापुरुष के लक्षणों का वर्णन करते हैं। चौड़े कंधे और विशाल भुजाएँ (महाबाहु) वीर रस और सुरक्षा का प्रतीक हैं। 'कम्बुग्रीव' (शंख जैसी गर्दन) और 'गूढजत्रु' (मांसल होने के कारण न दिखने वाली हँसली की हड्डी) उत्तम स्वास्थ्य और राजसी लक्षणों के परिचायक हैं। 'सुताम्राक्ष' (हल्के लाल नेत्र) क्रोध नहीं, बल्कि तेजस्वी पौरुष और राजसी आभा का प्रतीक हैं। हनुमान जी 'देवी' संबोधन का प्रयोग कर सीता का ध्यान आकर्षित करते हैं कि ये वही लक्षण हैं जिन्हें सीता ने स्वयं राम में देखा है।
