स तौ दृष्ट्वा नरव्याघ्रौ धन्विनौ वानरर्षभः ।
अवप्लुतो गिरेस्तस्य शिखरं भयमोहितः ।

Sa tau dṛṣṭvā naravyāghrau dhanvinau vānararṣabhaḥ |
avapluto girestasya śikharaṃ bhayamohitaḥ ॥5-35-28॥
Translation
Seeing those tigers among men armed with bows, that Bull among monkeys (Sugriva), deluded by fear, retreated and jumped to the peak of that mountain.

उन दोनों पुरुष सिंहों को धनुष धारण किए देख कर, वह वानर श्रेष्ठ (सुग्रीव) भय से व्याकुल हो गया और उस पर्वत के शिखर पर छलांग लगा कर चला गया।
English Commentary
Hanuman narrates the events truthfully, without hiding Sugriva's initial panic. Upon spotting the armed warriors ('tigers among men'), Sugriva, described as the 'bull among monkeys,' was seized by paranoia. He assumed they were assassins sent by his brother Vali. The term bhayamohitaḥ (deluded/bewildered by fear) explains his flight to the higher peaks. This reaction highlights the severity of Sugriva's trauma and isolation before he realized that these warriors were actually his potential saviors.

हनुमान जी पूरी ईमानदारी से उस घटना का वर्णन करते हैं। राम और लक्ष्मण के तेजस्वी रूप को देखकर सुग्रीव का पहला भाव भय का था। उसे लगा कि शायद बाली ने उसे मारने के लिए इन योद्धाओं को भेजा है। 'नरव्याघ्रौ' (मनुष्यों में व्याघ्र समान) और 'वानरर्षभः' (वानरों में श्रेष्ठ/बैल समान) जैसे विशेषण दोनों पक्षों की शक्ति को दर्शाते हैं। सुग्रीव का 'भयमोहित' होकर शिखर पर भागना उसकी तत्कालीन मानसिक स्थिति और असुरक्षा को दर्शाता है, जिससे यह पता चलता है कि उसे सहायता की कितनी अधिक आवश्यकता थी।
