ततस्तौ प्रीतिसम्पन्नौ हरीश्वरनरेश्वरौ ।
परस्परकृताश्वासौ कथया पूर्ववृत्तया ।

Tatastau prītisampannau harīśvaranareśvarau |
parasparakṛtāśvāsau kathayā pūrvavṛttayā ॥5-35-33॥
Translation
Then, those two—the Lord of Monkeys and the Lord of Men—filled with affection, comforted each other by narrating the stories of their past.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, प्रेम से युक्त वे दोनों—वानरों के ईश्वर (सुग्रीव) और नरों के ईश्वर (राम)—अपने अतीत की कथाओं के माध्यम से एक-दूसरे को सांत्वना देने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the emotional solidarity between Rama and Sugriva. Described elegantly as harīśvara (Lord of Monkeys) and nareśvara (Lord of Men), they found common ground in their tragedies. By sharing their pūrvavṛttayā (past histories/stories), they comforted one another. Rama shared the loss of Sita, and Sugriva shared his exile and the loss of his wife, Ruma. This mutual sharing of grief solidified their pact, transforming a political alliance into a personal brotherhood rooted in shared empathy.

राम और सुग्रीव की मित्रता समानता पर आधारित थी। दोनों 'ईश्वर' (स्वामी) थे—एक वानरों के और एक मनुष्यों के—और दोनों ही वियोगी थे। इस श्लोक में 'पूर्ववृत्तया' (बीती हुई घटनाओं) का उल्लेख है। राम ने सीता हरण की कथा सुनाई और सुग्रीव ने वाली द्वारा किए गए अपमान और पत्नी-हरण की व्यथा सुनाई। एक दूसरे के दुख को साझा करने से उन्हें सांत्वना ('आश्वासौ') मिली। यह मनोवैज्ञानिक सत्य को दर्शाता है कि समान दुख वाले व्यक्ति एक-दूसरे का दर्द बेहतर समझते हैं।
