यवीयान् केन मे भ्राता हतः क्व च निपातितः ।
एतदाख्यातुमिच्छामि भवद्भिर्वानरोत्तमाः ।

yavīyān kena me bhrātā hataḥ kva ca nipātitaḥ |
etadākhyātumicchāmi bhavadbhirvānarottamāḥ ॥5-35-64॥
Translation
(Sampati asked) "By whom was my younger brother killed, and where was he struck down? O best of Vanaras, I wish to be told this by you."

(सम्पाति ने पूछा) "मेरा छोटा भाई किसके द्वारा मारा गया और उसे कहाँ गिराया गया? हे वानर श्रेष्ठों! मैं आप लोगों से यह सब जानना चाहता हूँ।"
English Commentary
Here, Sampati engages the Vanaras directly, addressing them respectfully as "Vanarottamah" (O best of Vanaras), a sharp contrast to his likely initial predatory intent. His questions are specific: he wants to know the "who" and the "where" regarding his younger brother's death. The term "yaviyan" (younger one) adds a touch of tender affection to his query. This interaction is crucial because it changes the dynamic from predator-prey to a mutual exchange of information. Hanuman recites this dialogue to Sita to illustrate the authenticity of his mission. By recalling the exact inquiries of Sampati, Hanuman demonstrates that he possesses detailed, first-hand knowledge of the journey, distinguishing himself from any potential illusionist or spy Ravana might send to trick her.

इस श्लोक में सम्पाति की भ्रातृ-भक्ति और शोक व्यक्त हुआ है। वह वानरों को 'वानरोत्तमाः' (वानरों में श्रेष्ठ) कह कर संबोधित करता है, जो दर्शाता है कि अब वह उन्हें शत्रु या भोजन नहीं, बल्कि अपने भाई के विषय में सूचना देने वाले सम्मानित व्यक्तियों के रूप में देख रहा है। वह विशिष्ट विवरण मांगता है—'केन' (किसने) और 'क्व' (कहाँ)। यह जिज्ञासा ही वह माध्यम बनी जिससे वानरों और सम्पाति के बीच संवाद स्थापित हुआ। हनुमान जी द्वारा इन संवादों का इतना सूक्ष्म वर्णन सीता जी को यह प्रमाण देता है कि हनुमान वास्तव में उस घटना के प्रत्यक्षदर्शी हैं। एक जासूस या मायावी राक्षस ऐसी बारीक भावनात्मक बातें और संवादों का इतना सटीक विवरण नहीं दे सकता। यह कथा सीता के मन में विश्वास (Trust) उत्पन्न करने के लिए अत्यंत आवश्यक है।
