अतुलं च गता हर्षं प्रहर्षेण च जानकी ।
नेत्राभ्यां वक्रपक्ष्मभ्यां मुमोचानन्दजं जलम् ।
।
॥५-३५-८५॥
Atulaṃ ca gatā harṣaṃ praharṣeṇa ca jānakī । Netrābhyāṃ vakrapakṣmābhyāṃ mumocānandajaṃ jalam । । ॥5-35-85॥
Translation
Janaki experienced incomparable joy, and through that excessive delight, she shed tears of joy from her eyes which had beautiful curved lashes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जानकी (सीता) को अतुलनीय हर्ष प्राप्त हुआ और उस अत्यधिक प्रसन्नता के कारण उन्होंने अपने वक्र (टेढ़ी/सुंदर) पलकों वाले नेत्रों से आनन्द के आँसू बहाए।
English Commentary
This verse captures the intense emotional release of Sita. The phrase 'atulaṃ harṣaṃ' (incomparable joy) emphasizes that this happiness is unlike anything she has felt during her captivity; it is the first genuine moment of hope. The physical manifestation of this emotion is the shedding of 'anandajam jalam' (water born of bliss/tears of joy). The poet specifically describes her eyes as 'vakrapakṣmābhyāṃ' (having curved lashes), a classical mark of beauty in Sanskrit poetics, suggesting that even in her distressed state, her grace remains intact. These tears signify the breaking of the dam of sorrow that had held her captive as much as Ravana's walls.

यहाँ सीता जी के 'अतुलं हर्षं' (जिसकी तुलना न हो सके ऐसे आनंद) का वर्णन है। दीर्घकाल के विषाद के बाद आशा की किरण दिखने पर जो भावनात्मक प्रतिक्रिया होती है, वह यहाँ अश्रुधारा के रूप में प्रकट हुई है। वाल्मीकि जी ने सीता जी के नेत्रों के लिए 'वक्रपक्ष्मभ्यां' (घुमावदार पलकों वाले) विशेषण का प्रयोग किया है, जो दुःख की अवस्था में भी उनके नैसर्गिक सौंदर्य को दर्शाता है। यह आँसू दुःख के नहीं, अपितु 'आनन्दजं जल' (आनन्द से उत्पन्न जल) हैं। यह श्लोक करुण रस से निकलकर अद्भुत और शान्त रस की ओर संक्रमण का संकेत देता है, जहाँ विरहणी नायिका को अपने प्रिय का समाचार प्राप्त हुआ है।
