कौसल्यायास्तथा कच्चित् सुमित्रायास्तथैव च ।
अभीक्ष्णं श्रुयते कच्चित् कुशलं भरतस्य च ।
।
॥५-३६-२२॥
Kausalyāyāstathā kaccit sumitrāyāstathaiva ca । Abhīkṣṇaṃ śrūyate kaccit kuśalaṃ bharatasya ca । ॥5-36-22॥
Translation
Does he frequently hear news about the welfare of Kausalya, Sumitra, and also of Bharata?

क्या वे माता कौसल्या और सुमित्रा का, तथा भरत का कुशल-समाचार बार-बार (अभीक्ष्णं) सुनते रहते हैं?
English Commentary
Sita broadens the context from their personal tragedy to the wider family unit. She asks if Rama maintains contact with his mothers (Kausalya and Sumitra) and his brother Bharata. This question serves two purposes: first, it verifies Rama's adherence to dharma as a son and brother, ensuring he hasn't abandoned his duties in his grief. Second, historically/strategically, checking on Bharata implies checking on the support system from Ayodhya. It reflects Sita's holistic concern for the Ikshvaku lineage, even while she is imprisoned in Lanka.

घोर संकट में भी सीता जी पारिवारिक मर्यादा और धर्म को नहीं भूली हैं। वे जानना चाहती हैं कि क्या राम वन में रहते हुए भी अयोध्या के संपर्क में हैं। 'अभीक्ष्णं' (बार-बार) शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है; यह दर्शाता है कि राम को अपने परिवार की चिंता होनी चाहिए। भरत का नाम लेकर सीता जी यह भी संकेत कर रही हैं कि क्या अयोध्या की सेना की सहायता मिलने की कोई संभावना है। यह राम के 'पुत्र' और 'भ्राता' रूप के प्रति सीता का प्रश्न है।
