Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कच्चिन्न तद्धेमसमानवर्णं तस्याननं पद्मसमानगन्धि ।
मया विना शुष्यति शोकदीनं जलक्षये पद्ममिवातपेन ।

Kaccinna taddhemasamānavarṇaṃ tasyānanaṃ padmasamānagandhi । Mayā vinā śuṣyati śokadīnaṃ jalakṣaye padmamivātapena । ॥5-36-28॥
Translation
I hope his face, which has the color of gold and the fragrance of a lotus, is not drying up, wretched with grief, without me, like a lotus in the sun when the water is gone.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उनका वह मुख जो सोने के समान वर्ण वाला (हेमसमानवर्णं) और कमल जैसी सुगंध वाला (पद्मसमानगन्धि) है, क्या मेरे बिना शोक से दीन होकर, जल के सूख जाने पर धूप से मुरझाए हुए कमल की भांति, सूख तो नहीं रहा है?
English Commentary
A deeply poetic verse contrasting beauty with decay. Sita recalls Rama's face as having the luster of gold (hemasamānavarṇaṃ) and the fragrance of a lotus (padmasamānagandhi). She uses a poignant metaphor: Rama is the lotus, and she is the water (jala). Without the water, the sun (atapa), which represents grief/time, causes the lotus to wither (śuṣyati). Sita worries that the physical radiance of Rama is being eroded by the emotional drought of their separation.

सीता जी पुनः अत्यंत भावुक हो जाती हैं। वे राम के सौंदर्य का स्मरण करती हैं—स्वर्ण जैसी कांति और कमल जैसी गंध। यहाँ उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है: राम 'कमल' हैं, सीता 'जल' हैं, और विरह 'धूप' है। जैसे जल के बिना कमल धूप में झुलस जाता है, वैसे ही सीता (स्नेह रूपी जल) के बिना राम का मुख 'शुष्यति' (सूख रहा) होगा। यह श्लोक प्रेम की गहनता और एक-दूसरे पर निर्भरता का अद्भुत चित्रण है।
