सीताया वचनं श्रुत्वा मारुतिर्भीमविक्रमः ।
शिरस्यञ्जलिमाधाय वाक्यमुत्तरमब्रवीत् ।
।
॥५-३६-३२॥
Sītāyā vacanaṃ śrutvā mārutirbhīmavikramaḥ । Śirasyañjalimādhāya vākyamuttaramabravīt । । ॥5-36-32॥
Translation
Hearing Sita's words, Maruti (Hanuman), of terrible valor, placed his folded hands on his head and spoke these words in reply.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सीता जी के वचन सुनकर, भयानक पराक्रम वाले मारुति (हनुमान) ने अपने मस्तक पर अंजलि (हाथ जोड़कर) रखकर उत्तर रूप में यह वाक्य कहा।
English Commentary
The contrast in epithets defines Hanuman's character. He is bhīmavikramaḥ (one of terrifying power) towards enemies, yet acts with supreme humility before Sita. Placing folded hands on the head (śirasy añjalim ādhāya) is a gesture of total submission and reverence. He acknowledges the gravity of Sita's questions. Before delivering the strategic news, he establishes his posture as a devoted servant, ensuring his words will be received with the trust that his demeanor invites.

हनुमान जी का शिष्टाचार यहाँ दर्शनीय है। यद्यपि वे 'भीमविक्रमः' (शत्रुओं के लिए भयानक पराक्रमी) हैं, किन्तु माता सीता के समक्ष वे अत्यंत विनम्र हैं। 'शिरस्यञ्जलिमाधाय' (सिर पर हाथ जोड़कर) प्रणाम करना सर्वोच्च सम्मान का सूचक है। यह मुद्रा दर्शाती है कि वे सीता जी के हर शब्द को आदेश की भांति शिरोधार्य कर रहे हैं। हनुमान जी जानते हैं कि सीता जी का दुख गहरा है, इसलिए उनका उत्तर केवल सूचनात्मक नहीं, बल्कि सांत्वना देने वाला और श्रद्धा से भरा होना चाहिए।
