मलयेन च विन्ध्येन मेरुणा मन्दरेण च ।
दर्दुरेण च ते देवि शपे मूलफलेन च ।

Malayena ca vindhyena meruṇā mandareṇa ca । Dardureṇa ca te devi śape mūlaphalena ca । । ॥5-36-38॥
Translation
O Devi, I swear to you by the Malaya, Vindhya, Meru, Mandara, and Dardura mountains, and by the roots and fruits.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवी! मैं आपके सामने मलय, विंध्य, मेरु, मंदर और दर्दुर पर्वत की, तथा (वानरों के प्रिय भोजन) मूल और फलों की शपथ (शपे) लेता हूँ।
English Commentary
To cement his credibility, Hanuman takes a solemn oath (śape). As a Vanara, he swears by what is most sacred and vital to his existence: the great mountains (Malaya, Vindhya, Meru, Mandara, Dardura) that are his home, and the roots and fruits (mūlaphalena) that are his sustenance. This cultural nuance adds authenticity to the pledge. It signifies that he stakes his very survival and habitat on the truth of his words regarding Rama's arrival.

वानर संस्कृति में पर्वतों और कंद-मूल-फल का सर्वाधिक महत्व है। हनुमान जी अपनी सत्यता सिद्ध करने के लिए अपने जीवन के आधारभूत तत्वों की सौगंध खाते हैं। पाँच महान पर्वतों का नाम लेना उनकी शपथ की गंभीरता को बढ़ाता है। 'मूलफलेन च'—यह शपथ अत्यंत भावुक और वानर-सुलभ है, क्योंकि यही उनका जीवन है। यह सीता जी को विश्वास दिलाने का अंतिम और सबसे पवित्र प्रयास है कि जो कुछ भी हनुमान कह रहे हैं, वह पूर्णतः सत्य है।
