चतुर्दश सहस्राणि राक्षसानां जघान यः ।
जनस्थाने विना भ्रात्रा शत्रुः कस्तस्य नोद्विजेत् ।

॥५-३७-१४॥
Caturdaśa sahasrāṇi rākṣasānāṃ jaghāna yaḥ । Janasthāne vinā bhrātrā śatruḥ kastasya nodvijet । । ॥5-37-14॥
Translation
He who killed fourteen thousand Rakshasas in Janasthana alone, without his brother—what enemy would not tremble before him?
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिन्होंने जनस्थान में अपने भाई (लक्ष्मण) की सहायता के बिना अकेले ही चौदह हजार राक्षसों का वध कर दिया था, उनसे कौन सा शत्रु भयभीत नहीं होगा?
English Commentary
Sita cites historical precedent to back up her faith in Rama. The reference to the battle in Janasthana, where Rama single-handedly annihilated 14,000 demons while Lakshmana guarded Sita, is the ultimate proof of his martial supremacy. By asking "what enemy would not tremble," she implies that Ravana's army stands no chance against the one who has already demonstrated such mass destruction. It counters any doubt about Rama taking on Lanka.

सीता जी राम के पराक्रम का प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण देती हैं। खर-दूषण के साथ हुए युद्ध (जनस्थान) में राम ने अकेले ही 14,000 राक्षसों को मारा था। यह उदाहरण यह सिद्ध करने के लिए पर्याप्त है कि रावण की विशाल सेना राम के लिए कोई बाधा नहीं है। सीता जी तर्क दे रही हैं कि "संख्या बल" राम के सामने व्यर्थ है। 'विना भ्रात्रा' (भाई के बिना) कहकर वे राम के व्यक्तिगत शौर्य को रेखांकित करती हैं।
