हनुमन् दूरमध्वानं कथं मां वोढुमिच्छसि ।
तदेव खलु ते मन्ये कपित्वं हरियूथप ।
।
॥५-३७-२८॥
Hanūman dūramadhvānaṃ kathaṃ māṃ voḍhumicchasi । Tadeva khalu te manye kapitvam hariyūthapa । । ॥5-37-28॥
Translation
O Hanuman, how do you wish to carry me such a long distance? O leader of monkey troops, I consider this indeed to be your 'monkey nature'.

हे हनुमान! तुम इतनी लम्बी दूरी तक मेरा भार कैसे उठाना चाहते हो? हे वानरयूथप! मैं मानती हूँ कि यह तुम्हारा 'कपित्व' (वानर-स्वभाव/चंचलता) ही है।
English Commentary
Sita expresses skepticism based on visual evidence. Seeing Hanuman's small, cat-sized form, she questions the logistics of carrying a human adult across the ocean. She attributes this seemingly impossible proposal to his kapitvam—his 'monkey nature,' implying impulsiveness or a lack of serious forethought. It is a moment of light confrontation where logic clashes with divine capability, and Sita gently chides him for making what sounds like a childish boast.

सीता जी को हनुमान के छोटे शरीर को देखकर उनकी बातों पर विश्वास नहीं होता। वे इसे 'कपित्वं' (वानरपन) कहती हैं, जिसका अर्थ है बिना सोचे-समझे बात करना या चंचलता। यह सीता का स्नेहयुक्त उलाहना है। वे हनुमान की वीरता का अपमान नहीं कर रहीं, बल्कि व्यावहारिकता (practicality) के आधार पर प्रश्न कर रही हैं कि इतना छोटा शरीर इतना बड़ा कार्य कैसे करेगा?
