इति सञ्चिन्त्य हनुमांस्तदा प्लवगसत्तमः ।
दर्शयामास वैदेह्याः स्वरूपमरिमर्दनः ।
।
॥५-३७-३२॥
Iti sañcintya hanumāṃstadā plavagasattamaḥ । Darśayāmāsa vaidehyāḥ svarūpamarimardanaḥ । । ॥5-37-32॥
Translation
Thinking thus, Hanuman, the best among monkeys and the destroyer of enemies, revealed his true (colossal) form to Vaidehi (Sita).
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा विचार करके, उस समय शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले वानरश्रेष्ठ हनुमान जी ने विदेहनंदिनी सीता को अपना वास्तविक (विशाल) स्वरूप दिखाया।
English Commentary
The epithet 'Arimardana' (destroyer of foes) is significant here. Sita had expressed doubt regarding Hanuman’s physical capability to carry her across the ocean due to his diminutive form. Realizing that he must instill confidence in her before she would agree to his proposal, Hanuman decides to utilize his Mahima Siddhi (the mystic power to expand one's size infinitely). This marks a transition from his role as a humble messenger to a formidable warrior. He intends to show that his physical stature is a matter of will, not limitation, thereby proving his competence to transport her safely.

यहाँ हनुमान जी के 'अरिमर्दन' (शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला) विशेषण का प्रयोग महत्वपूर्ण है। सीता जी को हनुमान के वानर रूप को देखकर उनकी क्षमता पर संदेह हुआ था। हनुमान जी ने सोचा कि माता का विश्वास जीतना आवश्यक है, अन्यथा वे मेरे साथ चलने को तैयार नहीं होंगी। अपनी शक्ति का प्रमाण देने के लिए उन्होंने अणिमा आदि आठ सिद्धियों में से 'महिमा' सिद्धि का प्रयोग करने का निर्णय लिया। यह श्लोक एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ है जहाँ हनुमान जी दूत की विनम्रता त्यागकर एक योद्धा का विराट रूप धारण करने की तैयारी करते हैं, ताकि सीता जी को विश्वास हो सके कि वे उन्हें सुरक्षित समुद्र पार ले जा सकते हैं।
