हरिः पर्वतसङ्काशस्ताम्रवक्त्रो महाबलः ।
वज्रदंष्ट्रनखो भीमो वैदेहीमिदमब्रवीत् ।

॥५-३७-३५॥
Hariḥ parvatasaṅkāśastāmravaktro mahābalaḥ । Vajradaṃṣṭranakho bhīmo vaidehīmidamabravīt । । ॥5-37-35॥
Translation
The mountain-like monkey, possessing a copper-red face, immense strength, diamond-hard teeth and nails, and a terrifying appearance, spoke these words to Vaidehi.

पर्वत के समान विशाल, लाल मुख वाले, महाबली, वज्र के समान दाढ़ों और नखों वाले तथा भयानक रूपधारी हनुमान जी ने वैदेही से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Valmiki provides a vivid description of Hanuman's terrifying warrior form: a copper-red face and claws/teeth as hard as diamonds (Vajra). While the form is described as 'bhima' (fearsome), its purpose is protective rather than threatening towards Sita. It signals his capacity for destruction against the Rakshasas. This juxtaposition of a terrifying appearance with a dutiful, reassuring message highlights the duality of Hanuman's nature—he is a humble servant to Rama and Sita, but a terrifying monster to their enemies.

वाल्मीकि जी हनुमान के रौद्र रूप का वर्णन करते हैं—ताम्र वर्ण का मुख, वज्र जैसे नख और दाँत। यह रूप राक्षसों के लिए काल के समान है। यद्यपि यह रूप 'भीम' (भयानक) है, परन्तु हनुमान जी का उद्देश्य सीता जी को डराना नहीं, बल्कि अपनी सुरक्षात्मक क्षमता का परिचय देना था। यह वर्णन दर्शाता है कि हनुमान जी कोमल और कठोर दोनों रूपों में सिद्धहस्त हैं। सीता जी को यह आश्वासन देने के लिए कि वे रावण की सेना का सामना कर सकते हैं, ऐसे भयानक रूप का प्रदर्शन आवश्यक था।
