तं दृष्ट्वा भीमसङ्काशमुवाच जनकात्मजा ।
पद्मपत्रविशालाक्षी मारुतस्यौरसं सुतम् ।
।

Taṃ dṛṣṭvā bhīmasaṅkāśamuvāca janakātmajā । Padmapatraviśālākṣī mārutasyaurasaṃ sutam । । ॥5-37-38॥
Translation
Seeing that Wind-god's own son of terrifying form, Janaka's daughter, whose eyes were large like lotus petals, spoke.

उस भयानक रूप वाले पवनदेव के औरस पुत्र (हनुमान) को देखकर, कमल के पत्ते के समान विशाल नेत्रों वाली जनकनन्दिनी सीता ने कहा।
English Commentary
Valmiki creates a striking visual contrast here: Sita, described as having eyes as large and soft as lotus petals ('padma-patra-vishalakshi'), gazing upon the terrifying, mountain-like form of Hanuman. The use of 'Marutasya-aurasam-sutam' (legitimate/own son of the Wind) indicates Sita's total acceptance of his lineage and supernatural origins. The doubt has vanished, replaced by awe. The verse sets the stage for her response, which acknowledges his power but introduces a new layer of reasoning based on Dharma and practicality.

यहाँ सीता जी के लिए 'पद्मपत्रविशालाक्षी' (कमल पत्र जैसी विशाल आँखों वाली) विशेषण का प्रयोग उनकी सौम्यता और सात्विकता को दर्शाता है, जो हनुमान के 'भीमसङ्काश' (भयानक रूप) के विपरीत है। वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ एक रोचक दृश्य उपस्थित करते हैं—कोमल नयनों वाली सीता एक पर्वत जैसे विशाल वानर को देख रही हैं। सीता जी अब हनुमान को 'मारुतस्यौरसं सुतम्' (वायु का अपना पुत्र) मानती हैं, जिससे स्पष्ट होता है कि अब उन्हें हनुमान के वंश और शक्ति पर कोई संदेह नहीं रहा।
