शोकस्यास्य कदा पारं राघवो ऽधिगमिष्यति ।
प्लवमानः परिश्रान्तो हतनौः सागरे यथा ।
।

Śokasyāsya kadā pāraṃ rāghavo 'dhigamiṣyati । Plavamānaḥ pariśrānto hatanauḥ sāgare yathā । । ॥5-37-5॥
Translation
When will Raghava reach the other shore of this sorrow? He is like a shipwrecked person, swimming and exhausted in the ocean.

जैसे कोई नौका टूट जाने पर समुद्र में तैरता हुआ व्यक्ति थक जाता है, वैसे ही राघव इस शोक-सागर को तैरते हुए कब उसके पार पहुँचेंगे?
English Commentary
Sita employs a vivid metaphor of a shipwreck to describe Rama's condition. Rama is compared to a survivor whose boat has been destroyed (hatanauḥ), leaving him to swim across a vast ocean alone. The "ocean" is his grief, and the "broken boat" signifies the loss of his support system (Sita and his happiness). Sita asks "When will he reach the shore?", expressing fear for his endurance. She worries that his continued struggle against such overwhelming sorrow is leaving him exhausted (pariśrānto).

सीता जी यहाँ 'शोक-सागर' रूपक का प्रयोग करती हैं। राम की तुलना उस व्यक्ति से की गयी है जिसकी नाव बीच समुद्र में टूट गयी हो ('हतनौः')। नाव टूटने का अर्थ है—जीवन के आधार (सीता) का खो जाना। अब राम अपने बाहुबल से ही इस दुःख के सागर को तैर रहे हैं, किन्तु वे 'परिश्रान्त' (अत्यंत थके हुए) हैं। सीता की चिंता यह है कि कहीं वे तैरते-तैरते डूब न जाएँ, अर्थात शोक उन्हें समाप्त न कर दे। यह राम की मानसिक दशा के प्रति सीता की गहरी चिंता को व्यक्त करता है।
