भर्तृभक्तिं पुरस्कृत्य रामादन्यस्य वानर ।
न स्पृशामि शरीरं तु पुंसो वानरपुङ्गव ।

Bhartṛbhaktiṃ puraskṛtya rāmādanyasya vānara । Na spṛśāmi śarīraṃ tu puṃso vānarapuṅgava । । ॥5-37-59॥
Translation
"O best of monkeys, placing devotion to my husband in the forefront, I will not touch the body of any man other than Rama."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे वानरश्रेष्ठ! अपनी पतिभक्ति को आगे रखकर (प्रमुख मानकर), मैं राम के अतिरिक्त किसी अन्य पुरुष के शरीर का स्पर्श नहीं कर सकती।"
English Commentary
This is the moral core of Sita’s refusal. As a paragon of chastity (Pativrata), she has vowed never to voluntarily touch another man. Riding on Hanuman’s back would necessitate physical contact, violating her vow. By stating she places her devotion 'in the forefront' ('puraskritya'), she declares that upholding her moral code is more important than her immediate rescue. She prefers to suffer in captivity rather than compromise her integrity.

यह सीता जी का सबसे प्रबल 'धार्मिक' तर्क है। एक पतिव्रता स्त्री के रूप में, उन्होंने संकल्प लिया है कि वे पर-पुरुष का स्पर्श नहीं करेंगी। हनुमान की पीठ पर बैठकर जाने के लिए उन्हें हनुमान को पकड़ना होगा, जो उनके पातिव्रत्य धर्म के विरुद्ध है। 'पुरस्कृत्य' का अर्थ है कि वे अपने प्राणों से भी अधिक महत्व अपने धर्म को देती हैं। वे संकट में भी मर्यादा का उल्लंघन नहीं करना चाहतीं। यह श्लोक भारतीय संस्कृति में 'शील' की महत्ता को प्रतिपादित करता है।
