इदं श्रेष्ठमभिज्ञानं ब्रूयास्त्वं तु मम प्रियम्।
शैलस्य चित्रकूटस्य पादे पूर्वोत्तरे पुरा ।

idaṃ śreṣṭhamabhijñānaṃ brūyāstvaṃ tu mama priyam। śailasya citrakūṭasya pāde pūrvottare purā । । ॥5-38-12॥
Translation
"(Sita says) You must tell my beloved this excellent token of recognition: 'Long ago, at the north-eastern foot of Mount Chitrakuta...'"

"(सीता जी कहती हैं) तुम मेरे प्रिय (राम) से यह श्रेष्ठ अभिज्ञान (पहचान की कथा) कहना: 'पहले कभी चित्रकूट पर्वत के पूर्व-उत्तरी भाग (तलहटी) में...'"
English Commentary
Sita begins to recount the 'Kakasura Vrittanta' (the episode of the crow). She calls it 'shreshthamabhijnanam' (the best token) because this incident occurred in the privacy of the forest, witnessed by no one but Rama and Sita. She provides precise geographical details—the north-eastern foot of Mount Chitrakuta. This specificity will serve as proof to Rama that Hanuman has truly met Sita and conversed with her at length. This story is chosen to remind Rama of his role as her protector and their intimate moments.
