तापसाश्रमवासिन्याः प्राज्यमूलफलोदके ।
तस्मिन् सिद्धाश्रमे देशे मन्दाकिन्या ह्यदूरतः ।
।
॥५-३८-१३॥
tāpasāśramavāsinyāḥ prājyamūlaphalodake । tasmin siddhāśrame deśe mandākinyā hyadūrataḥ । । ॥5-38-13॥
Translation
"...living in the hermitage of ascetics, in that place called Siddhashrama, not far from the Mandakini river, where roots, fruits, and water were abundant..."

"...उस समय जब हम तपस्वियों के आश्रम में रहते थे, जहाँ प्रचुर मात्रा में कंद, मूल, फल और जल उपलब्ध था, मंदाकिनी नदी से कुछ ही दूर उस सिद्धाश्रम नामक स्थान पर..."
English Commentary
Sita vividly describes the setting and atmosphere. She recalls the days when they lived happily even in the forest. 'Prajyamulaphalodake' indicates that nature provided them with abundant sustenance. 'Mandakinya hyaduratah' (not far from the Mandakini) confirms the location. These details are meant to awaken the memories of those happier days in Rama's mind, compelling him to contrast that past happiness with her current suffering and spurring him to come quickly for her rescue.

सीता जी उस स्थान और वातावरण का सजीव चित्रण करती हैं। वे उन दिनों को याद करती हैं जब वे वन में भी सुखपूर्वक रह रहे थे। 'प्राज्यमूलफलोदके' बताता है कि प्रकृति ने उन्हें सब कुछ दिया था। 'मन्दाकिन्या ह्यदूरतः' (मन्दाकिनी से ज्यादा दूर नहीं) स्थान की पुष्टि करता है। यह विवरण राम के मन में उन पुराने, सुखद दिनों की स्मृति को जगाने के लिए है, ताकि वे सीता के वर्तमान कष्ट की तुलना उस समय के सुख से कर सकें और उन्हें बचाने के लिए शीघ्र आएं।
