पुनः पुनरथोत्पत्य विददार स मां भृशम् ।
ततः समुक्षितो रामो मुक्तैः शोणितबिन्दुभिः ।
।
॥५-३८-२३॥
punaḥ punarathotpatya vidadāra sa māṃ bhṛśam । tataḥ samukṣito rāmo muktaiḥ śoṇitabindubhiḥ । ॥5-38-23॥
Translation
"Flying up again and again, it tore at me heavily. Then, Rama was sprinkled by the drops of blood falling (from my wounds)."

"वह बार-बार उड़कर झपटता और मुझे बुरी तरह नोचता रहा। तब (मेरे घावों से) गिरती हुई खून की बूंदों से राम भीग गए।"
English Commentary
The horror of the situation peaks here. 'Punah punarathotpatya' (flying up again and again) indicates a relentless assault. 'Bhrisham' (heavily/severely) emphasizes Sita's suffering. The most crucial detail is how Rama woke up—not by noise, but by 'shonitabindubhih' (drops of blood). Sita's blood fell onto Rama's body. This symbolizes the oneness of Rama and Sita; her pain physically touched him. This is a powerful image that serves as the foundation for Rama's ensuing vengeance.
