Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स्त्रीत्वं न तु समर्थं हि सागरं व्यतिवर्तितुम् ।
मामधिष्ठाय विस्तीर्णं शतयोजनमायतम् ।
।
॥५-३८-३॥
strī tvaṃ na tu samarthaṃ hi sāgaraṃ vyativartitum । māmadhiṣṭhāya vistīrṇaṃ śatayojanamāyatam । । ॥5-38-3॥
Translation
(Hanuman says) "Indeed, being a woman, it is not capable for you to cross the vast ocean, spanning one hundred yojanas, by mounting upon my back."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(हनुमान जी कहते हैं) "स्त्री होने के कारण, मेरे ऊपर बैठकर सौ योजन विस्तृत समुद्र को पार करना आपके लिए वास्तव में संभव नहीं है (क्योंकि इसमें भय और जोखिम है)।"
English Commentary
Here, Hanuman agrees with the practical difficulties expressed by Sita. In the previous verses, Sita had outlined the dangers of crossing the ocean on Hanuman's back, such as dizziness, the risk of falling, or being pursued by demons. Hanuman, possessing immense wisdom and sensitivity, validates her concerns. He acknowledges that for a delicate woman, traveling a hundred yojanas through the sky at high speed without protection is indeed a perilous task. This reflects Hanuman's humility; he does not take the rejection of his offer as an insult to his strength but rather appreciates the reality of the situation and Sita's safety concerns.

यहाँ हनुमान जी माता सीता द्वारा व्यक्त की गई व्यावहारिक कठिनाई से सहमत होते हैं। पिछले श्लोकों में सीता जी ने हनुमान की पीठ पर बैठकर समुद्र पार करने में आने वाली समस्याओं (जैसे चक्कर आना, गिर जाना, या राक्षसों का पीछा करना) का उल्लेख किया था। हनुमान जी, जो कि अत्यंत बुद्धिमान और संवेदनशील हैं, उनकी बात का सम्मान करते हैं। वे यह स्वीकार करते हैं कि एक सुकोमल स्त्री के लिए, बिना किसी सुरक्षा कवच के, आकाश मार्ग से तीव्र गति से सौ योजन की यात्रा करना अत्यंत दुष्कर और जोखिम भरा कार्य है। यह हनुमान जी की विनम्रता दर्शाता है कि उन्होंने अपने प्रस्ताव के अस्वीकार होने को अहंकार का प्रश्न नहीं बनाया, बल्कि स्थिति की वास्तविकता को समझा।
