परिद्यूनं विषण्णं च स तमायान्तमब्रवीत् ।
मोघं कर्तुं न शक्यं तु ब्राह्ममस्त्रं तदुच्यताम् ।
।
॥५-३८-३६॥
paridyūnaṃ viṣaṇṇaṃ ca sa tamāyāntamabravīt । moghaṃ kartuṃ na śakyaṃ tu brāhmamastraṃ taducyatām । । ॥5-38-36॥
Translation
"Rama spoke to him who had come exhausted and dejected: 'It is not possible to render the Brahmastra void (useless); therefore, say what is to be done.'"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"राम ने उस थके-हारे ('परिद्यूनं') और उदास ('विषण्णं') होकर आए हुए कौवे से कहा: 'यह ब्रह्मास्त्र व्यर्थ (मोघं) नहीं किया जा सकता, इसलिए बताओ (अब क्या किया जाए)।'"
English Commentary
Even after granting asylum, a technicality remained. The Brahmastra, once invoked, cannot be rendered 'mogham' (useless/void); it must consume something. Rama, in his mercy, asks the exhausted ('paridyunam') crow to choose how to satisfy the weapon. This shows Rama respecting the laws of the universe (the nature of the astra) while still being compassionate. He allows the offender to negotiate the terms of his own partial punishment to save his life.

शरण देने के बाद भी एक तकनीकी समस्या थी। ब्रह्मास्त्र एक बार चल जाने के बाद बिना अपना कार्य किए वापस नहीं लौटता। उसे 'मोघं' (निष्फल) करना संभव नहीं है। इसलिए राम ने दया दिखाते हुए कौवे से ही पूछा कि वह अपने शरीर का कौन सा अंग इस अस्त्र को भेंट करना चाहता है। यह राम की न्यायप्रियता है—प्राण बख्श दिए, लेकिन अस्त्र की मर्यादा भी रखनी है। वे अपराधी को स्वयं दंड चुनने का अवसर देते हैं।
