भ्रातुरादेशमादाय लक्ष्मणो वा परन्तपः ।
कस्य हेतोर्न मां वीरः परित्राति महाबलः ।

bhrātur ādeśam ādāya lakṣmaṇo vā parantapaḥ । kasya hetorna māṃ vīraḥ paritrāti mahābalaḥ । । ॥5-38-46॥
Translation
Or, taking the command of his brother, why does the scorcher of foes, the great hero Lakshmana, not save me? For what reason?

अथवा, वे शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले, महाबली वीर लक्ष्मण, भाई (राम) का आदेश लेकर, किस कारण से मेरी रक्षा नहीं करते?
English Commentary
Turning her thoughts to Lakshmana, Sita acknowledges his capability by calling him Parantapa (scorcher of foes) and Mahābala (greatly strong). She understands the hierarchy perfectly: Lakshmana acts on Rama's command (ādeśam ādāya). Her question shifts slightly—if Rama is occupied, why hasn't he dispatched Lakshmana to rescue her? She knows Lakshmana's devotion is absolute. Therefore, his absence implies that either Rama hasn't ordered him to act, or something else is preventing even this loyal brother from intervening. It highlights the coordinated inaction of both brothers that puzzles her.

राम के बाद सीता लक्ष्मण का स्मरण करती हैं। लक्ष्मण की शक्ति और भक्ति पर उन्हें पूरा विश्वास है। वे जानती हैं कि लक्ष्मण राम की आज्ञा के बिना कोई कदम नहीं उठाते, इसलिए वे कहती हैं 'भ्रातुरादेशमादाय' (भाई का आदेश लेकर)। वे लक्ष्मण को 'परन्तप' (शत्रुओं को संताप देने वाला) कहती हैं। उनका प्रश्न है कि यदि राम स्वयं नहीं आ सकते, तो वे लक्ष्मण को क्यों नहीं भेजते? लक्ष्मण अकेले ही रावण का वध करने में सक्षम हैं। यह प्रश्न इंगित करता है कि सीता को लगता है कि शायद राम ने लक्ष्मण को भी उन्हें खोजने या बचाने का आदेश नहीं दिया है।
