Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वृद्धोपसेवी लक्ष्मीवान् शक्तो न बहु भाषिता ।
राजपुत्रः प्रियः श्रेष्ठः सदृशः श्वशुरस्य मे ।
।
॥५-३८-६२॥
vṛddhopasevī lakṣmīvān śakto na bahu bhāṣitā । rājaputraḥ priyaḥ śreṣṭhaḥ sadṛśaḥ śvaśurasya me । । ॥5-38-62॥
Translation
He serves the elders, is fortunate/glorious, capable, and does not speak much. That prince is dear (to Rama), the best, and resembles my father-in-law (Dasharatha).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे बड़ों की सेवा करने वाले, लक्ष्मीवान (कांतिमान/संस्कारी), समर्थ, और बहुत न बोलने वाले (मितभाषी) हैं। वह राजपुत्र (राम को) प्रिय है, श्रेष्ठ है और मेरे ससुर (दशरथ) के सदृश है।
English Commentary
Sita concludes her praise of Lakshmana with profound descriptors. He is Vṛddhopasevī (server of elders) and Na bahu bhāṣitā (reticent/men of few words), indicating his disciplined nature. She calls him Priyaḥ (dear) to Rama. The ultimate encomium is comparing him to King Dasharatha (śvaśurasya sadṛśaḥ). For Sita to see the image of the great Emperor and her father-in-law in Lakshmana signifies that she holds him in the highest possible esteem. It is a message meant to heal Lakshmana's heart when he hears it from Hanuman.

सीता लक्ष्मण के गुणों की सूची जारी रखती हैं। 'न बहु भाषिता' (कम बोलने वाला) लक्ष्मण का एक विशेष गुण है—वे कर्म में विश्वास रखते हैं, बातों में नहीं। सबसे बड़ी उपमा अंत में आती है—'सदृशः श्वशुरस्य मे' (मेरे ससुर दशरथ के समान)। एक पुत्रवधू के लिए देवर की तुलना ससुर से करना सम्मान की पराकाष्ठा है। इसका अर्थ है कि लक्ष्मण में दशरथ जैसा ही त्याग, वात्सल्य और राजसी गुण हैं। सीता के सन्देश का बड़ा भाग राम के बजाय लक्ष्मण की प्रशंसा में है, जो उनके पश्चाताप और स्नेह को दर्शाता है।
