इच्छामि त्वां समानेतुमद्यैव रघुबन्धुना ।
गुरुस्नेहेन भक्त्या च नान्यथैतदुदाहृतम् ।

icchāmi tvāṃ samānetumadyaiva raghubandhunā । gurusnehena bhaktyā ca nānyathaitadudāhṛtam । । ॥5-38-9॥
Translation
"I wished to unite you with the scion of the Raghus (Rama) this very day. It was spoken out of deep affection for you and devotion (to Rama), and not otherwise."

"मैं आज ही आपको रघुनंदन (राम) से मिलाना चाहता था। आपमें मेरे भारी स्नेह और (राम के प्रति) भक्ति के कारण ही मैंने ऐसा कहा था, किसी अन्य भाव से नहीं।"
English Commentary
Hanuman reiterates the purity of his intent. The word 'adyaiva' (this very day) reflects his eagerness and urgency; he cannot bear to see Sita suffer for even one more moment. 'Gurusnehena' implies a deep, respectful affection, akin to reverence for an elder or mother. He assures Sita that his proposal was devoid of guile or arrogance, driven solely by the spirit of service. This clarification is crucial because Sita had raised the issue of touching another man, and Hanuman wishes to establish his complete innocence and devotional stance.

हनुमान जी पुनः अपनी शुद्ध भावना की पुष्टि करते हैं। 'अद्यैव' (आज ही) शब्द उनकी व्याकुलता और तत्परता को दर्शाता है; वे सीता के दुख का एक क्षण भी और नहीं देख सकते। 'गुरुस्नेहेन' का अर्थ यहाँ 'बड़ों के प्रति आदरयुक्त स्नेह' या 'गहन स्नेह' है। वे सीता को आश्वस्त करते हैं कि उनके प्रस्ताव में कोई छल या अहंकार नहीं था, केवल सेवा भाव था। यह स्पष्टीकरण इसलिए आवश्यक है क्योंकि सीता ने 'परपुरुष स्पर्श' का मुद्दा उठाया था, और हनुमान अपनी निर्दोषता सिद्ध करना चाहते हैं।
