स तु मर्मणि घोरेण ताडितो मन्मथेषुणा ।
न शर्म लभते रामः सिंहार्दित इव द्विपः ।

Sa tu marmani ghorena tāḍito manmatheṣuṇā । Na śarma labhate rāmaḥ siṃhārdita iva dvipaḥ । । ॥5-39-51॥
Translation
Struck in his vital parts by the terrible arrow of Manmatha (Cupid), Rama finds no peace, just like an elephant tormented by a lion.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे राम (आपके वियोग में) मन्मथ (कामदेव) के भयानक बाणों से मर्मस्थान (हृदय) पर घायल होकर, वैसे ही शांति नहीं पा रहे हैं, जैसे सिंह द्वारा पीड़ित किया गया हाथी।
English Commentary
Hanuman portrays the intense emotional vulnerability of Rama to validate his deep love for Sita. Though Rama is a warrior without equal, here he is described as being struck in his "marmani" (vital spots) by Cupid's arrows. The metaphor of an elephant tormented by a lion ("simhardita iva dvipah") is striking; it suggests that just as a massive elephant is helpless before a lion's ferocity, the mighty Rama is helpless before the agony of separation. This assures Sita that Rama’s delay is not due to indifference, but rather he is suffering just as much, if not more, than she is.

हनुमान जी यहाँ राम की मानसिक दशा का अत्यंत मार्मिक वर्णन कर रहे हैं। यद्यपि राम महाशक्तिशाली हैं, किन्तु पत्नी-वियोग में वे एक साधारण प्रेमी की भाँति व्याकुल हैं। 'मर्मणि' शब्द दर्शाता है कि चोट शरीर पर नहीं, बल्कि आत्मा और हृदय की गहराई पर लगी है। हाथी और सिंह की उपमा ('सिंहार्दित इव द्विपः') बहुत शक्तिशाली है; जैसे जंगल का राजा (सिंह) विशालकाय हाथी को भी विवश कर देता है, वैसे ही सीता के प्रेम (कामदेव) ने महाबली राम को विवश और बेचैन कर रखा है। यह सीता जी को यह विश्वास दिलाने के लिए है कि राम उन्हें एक क्षण के लिए भी भूले नहीं हैं।
