Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चक्रेणाथ पदं सव्यं शत्रूणां स तु मूर्धनि ।
प्रविष्टः सत्त्वसंपन्नो वीर्यावान् मारुतात्मजः ॥ ॥५-४-३॥
Cakreṇātha padaṃ savyaṃ śatrūṇāṃ sa tu mūrdhani । Praviṣṭaḥ sattvasaṃpanno vīryāvān mārutātmajaḥ ॥ ॥5-4-3॥
Translation
Then, putting his left foot forward, as if placing it on the heads of the enemies, the strong son of the Wind God, endowed with goodness (Sattva), entered.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लंका में प्रवेश करते हुए उस सत्वगुण संपन्न, वीर्यवान मारुतिनंदन ने अपना बायां पैर आगे बढ़ाया, मानो उन्होंने शत्रुओं के मस्तक पर ही पैर रख दिया हो।
English Commentary
This verse is rich in symbolism regarding omens. While the right foot is typically auspicious for entry, Hanuman deliberately places his savyam padam (left foot) first. In the context of martial conquest and entering an enemy's zone to cause destruction, this is a sign of dominance and inauspiciousness for the residents. The text explicitly interprets this action as stepping on the "heads of the enemies." Despite this aggressive posture, Hanuman is described as Sattvasampanno (endowed with Sattva/purity), distinguishing his righteous aggression from the chaotic violence of the Rakshasas. It signifies that the destruction he brings is a cleansing, righteous force.

यह श्लोक शकुन शास्त्र और प्रतीकात्मकता की दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। सामान्यतः गृह प्रवेश के लिए दायां पैर शुभ माना जाता है, परन्तु शत्रु क्षेत्र में विनाश या दमन के उद्देश्य से प्रवेश करते समय 'सव्यं पदं' (बायां पैर) आगे रखना उचित माना गया है। यहाँ कवि कहते हैं कि बायां पैर रखकर हनुमान ने मानो 'शत्रूणां मूर्धनि' (शत्रुओं के सिर पर) पैर रख दिया। यह राक्षसों के आसन्न विनाश का संकेत है। हनुमान जी को 'सत्त्वसंपन्न' कहा गया है, जो यह स्पष्ट करता है कि उनका यह आक्रामक कृत्य द्वेषपूर्ण नहीं, बल्कि धर्म और सत्त्व गुण से प्रेरित है। शक्ति (वीर्यवान) और पवित्रता (सत्त्वसंपन्न) का यह अद्भुत संगम है।
