घोरो राक्षसराजो ऽयं दृष्टिश्च न सुखा मयि ।
त्वां च श्रुत्वा विषज्जनं न जीवेयमहं क्षणम् ।

ghoro rākṣasarājo 'yaṃ dṛṣṭiśca na sukhā mayi |
tvāṃ ca śrutvā viṣajjanaṃ na jīveyamahaṃ kṣaṇam ॥5-40-11॥
Translation
This King of Rakshasas is terrible, and his gaze upon me is not pleasant. Hearing that you are delaying, I would not survive even for a moment.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यह राक्षसों का राजा (रावण) अत्यंत क्रूर (घोर) है और मुझ पर इसकी दृष्टि भी अच्छी (सुखद) नहीं है। (यदि तुम नहीं आए तो) तुम्हें विलंब करते हुए (रुका हुआ) सुनकर मैं एक क्षण भी जीवित नहीं रहूँगी।
English Commentary
Sita reiterates the immediate threat. Ravana is described as ghoro (terrible/cruel), and his intention toward her is malicious (dṛṣṭiśca na sukhā). She lives under the constant shadow of violation and death. She adds that knowing Rama is delaying (viṣajjanaṃ) would be the final blow to her life force. She cannot endure the psychological weight of procrastination. This verse serves as the final emotional plea in her message to Rama, combining the external threat of Ravana with the internal threat of despair caused by delay.

सीता जी अपनी स्थिति की गंभीरता का वर्णन करती हैं। रावण केवल एक शत्रु नहीं, बल्कि 'घोर' (भयानक) है और उसकी 'दृष्टि' कुत्सित है। यह सीता के सतीत्व पर मंडराते खतरे को दर्शाता है। वे कहती हैं कि यदि उन्हें यह समाचार मिला कि राम 'विषज्जनं' (रुक रहे हैं/विलंब कर रहे हैं/आने में असमर्थ हैं), तो वे एक क्षण भी नहीं जी पाएंगी। यहाँ 'विषज्जनं' का पाठभेद और अर्थ विद्वानों में चर्चा का विषय रहा है, परन्तु संदर्भानुसार इसका अर्थ राम की निष्क्रियता या विलंब से है। सीता का धैर्य अब टूटने की कगार पर है और वे हनुमान के माध्यम से राम को शीघ्रता करने का आग्रह कर रही हैं।
