हत्वा तु समरे क्रूरं रावणं सहबान्धवम् ।
राघवौ त्वां विशालाक्षि स्वां पुरीं प्रापयिष्यतः ।

hatvā tu samare krūraṃ rāvaṇaṃ sahabāndhavam |
rāghavau tvāṃ viśālākṣi svāṃ purīṃ prāpayiṣyataḥ ॥5-40-16॥
Translation
O large-eyed one, having killed the cruel Ravana along with his kinsmen in battle, the two Raghava brothers will take you back to their own city.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे विशाल नेत्रों वाली (विशालाक्षि)! रघुकुल के वे दोनों भाई युद्ध में क्रूर रावण को उसके भाई-बन्धुओं सहित मारकर, आपको अपनी नगरी (अयोध्या) ले जाएँगे।
English Commentary
This verse offers the complete roadmap of rescue. Hanuman addresses Sita as viśālākṣi (large-eyed one), a traditional epithet of beauty, gently reminding her of her royal status despite her current state. The promise is specific: total annihilation of Ravana and his support system (sahabāndhavam), followed by a return to svāṃ purīṃ (their own city, Ayodhya). This counters Sita's fear of dying in captivity by visualizing the specific outcome of the war—victory and repatriation. It is designed to give her a concrete future to hold onto during the remaining days of her captivity.

इस श्लोक में हनुमान जी सीता जी के वनवास के अंत और घर वापसी का चित्र खींचते हैं। 'विशालाक्षि' सम्बोधन सीता जी की सुंदरता और उनकी आँखों में छिपी प्रतीक्षा को दर्शाता है। हनुमान जी स्पष्ट करते हैं कि रावण का अंत निश्चित है और वह अकेला नहीं, बल्कि 'सहबान्धवम्' (अपने कुल/बंधुओं सहित) मारा जाएगा। 'स्वां पुरीं' (अपनी नगरी) का उल्लेख सीता जी को अयोध्या की सुरक्षा और सुख की याद दिलाता है। यह आश्वासन पूर्ण है—शत्रु का नाश और सम्मानजनक घर वापसी।
