स राजपुत्र्या प्रतिवेदितार्थः कपिः कृतार्थः परिहृष्टचेताः ।
अल्पावशेषं प्रसमीक्ष्य कार्यं दिशं ह्युदिचीं मनसा जगाम ।

sa rājaputryā prativeditārthaḥ kapiḥ kṛtārthaḥ parihṛṣṭacetāḥ |
alpāvaśeṣaṃ prasamīkṣya kāryaṃ diśaṃ hyudicīṃ manasā jagāma ॥5-40-25॥
Translation
Having been informed of the necessary matters by the Princess (Sita), the Vanara (Hanuman) felt accomplished and his heart was filled with joy. Considering that only a small remnant of the work remained (the return journey), he mentally set out towards the northern direction.

राजकुमारी (सीता) द्वारा प्रयोजन (संदेश और अभिज्ञान) बता दिए जाने पर, वानर (हनुमान) स्वयं को कृतार्थ (सफल) मानकर मन ही मन अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए। कार्य का केवल थोड़ा सा भाग शेष (समुद्र लांघकर वापस जाना) देखकर, उन्होंने मन ही मन उत्तर दिशा (वापसी का मार्ग) की ओर प्रस्थान किया।
English Commentary
This verse marks the conclusion of the 40th Sarga. Hanuman describes himself as kṛtārthaḥ (one who has achieved his object), signifying the successful completion of his primary mission: locating Sita and receiving her token. The phrase alpāvaśeṣaṃ (little remaining) indicates his confidence; compared to the uncertainty of the search, the physical return across the ocean seems like a minor task to him. He mentally (manasā) turns towards the North (udicīṃ), the direction of Rama's camp, symbolizing his eagerness to deliver the good news. It highlights the psychological relief of an envoy who has succeeded against all odds and is now focused on the logistics of the return report.

यह श्लोक सुन्दरकाण्ड के 40वें सर्ग का समापन करता है। यहाँ हनुमान जी की मानसिक स्थिति 'कृतार्थ' और 'परिहृष्टचेताः' बताई गई है, जिसका अर्थ है कि मुख्य उद्देश्य—सीता की खोज और उनका संदेश प्राप्त करना—सफलतापूर्वक पूर्ण हो चुका है। 'अल्पावशेषं' (थोड़ा शेष) कार्य से तात्पर्य है कि अब केवल वापस जाकर राम को सूचना देना बाकी है, जो समुद्र लांघने की तुलना में उन्हें सरल प्रतीत हो रहा है। 'दिशं ह्युदिचीं' (उत्तर दिशा) का उल्लेख इसलिए है क्योंकि लंका दक्षिण में है और भारतवर्ष (राम का स्थान) उत्तर में है। हनुमान जी शारीरिक रूप से अभी वहीं हैं, किन्तु मानसिक रूप से ('मनसा') उन्होंने वापसी की यात्रा आरम्भ कर दी है। यह एक कर्त्तव्यनिष्ठ दूत की संतुष्टि को दर्शाता है।
