अहमप्यस्य भीता ऽस्मि नैनं जानामि कोन्वयम् ।
वेद्मि राक्षसमेवैनं कामरूपिणमागतम् ।
।

Ahamapyasya bhītā 'smi nainaṃ jānāmi konvayam |
Vedmi rākṣasamevainaṃ kāmarūpiṇamāgatam ॥5-42-10॥
Translation
"I am also afraid of him. I do not know who he is. I consider him to be only a Rakshasa who has come here, able to change form at will."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मैं भी इससे डर रही हूँ। मैं नहीं जानती कि यह कौन है। मैं तो इसे इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने वाला (कामरूपी) कोई आया हुआ राक्षस ही समझती हूँ।"
English Commentary
Sita reinforces her feigned ignorance by expressing shared fear (aham apy asya bhītā). By explicitly labeling him a kāmarūpiṇam rākṣasam (a shape-shifting demon), she attempts to normalize his presence as a local, albeit terrifying, phenomenon rather than an external invasion from Ayodhya or Kishkindha. This denial is crucial for preserving the secret of her successful contact with Rama's envoy until the right moment.

अपने अभिनय को पूर्णता प्रदान करते हुए सीता जी कहती हैं कि वे स्वयं भयभीत हैं। 'कामरूपिणम्' (इच्छानुसार रूप धरने वाला) शब्द का प्रयोग करके उन्होंने यह स्थापित करने का प्रयास किया कि यह वानर वेश में कोई राक्षस ही है। यह कथन हनुमान जी की सुरक्षा के लिए एक कवच है। यदि राक्षसियाँ यह मान लें कि यह कोई विद्रोही राक्षस या कोई दैवीय प्रकोप है, तो वे इसे रावण का आंतरिक मामला मानेंगी, न कि बाहरी आक्रमण।
