Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रावणस्य समीपे तु राक्षस्यो विकृताननाः ।
विरूपं वानरं भीममाख्यातुमुपचक्रमुः ।
।
॥५-४२-१२॥
Rāvaṇasya samīpe tu rākṣasyo vikṛtānanāḥ |
Virūpaṃ vānaraṃ bhīmamākhyātumupacakramuḥ ॥5-42-12॥
Translation
Those ugly-faced Rakshasis reached the presence of Ravana and began to describe the deformed and terrible Monkey.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे विकृत मुख वाली राक्षसियाँ रावण के पास पहुँचीं और उस कुरूप (विचित्र रूप वाले) तथा भयानक वानर के विषय में बताने लगीं।
English Commentary
The scene shifts to Ravana's proximity. The guards begin their report (ākhyātum upacakramuḥ). They describe Hanuman as virūpam (deformed/misshapen/monstrous) and bhīmam (terrible). This description is subjective to their fear; Hanuman’s divine, expanded form appears monstrous to the demonic nature of the Rakshasis because it threatens their existence.

समाचार लेकर जाने वाली राक्षसियाँ अब रावण के दरबार (या निजी कक्ष) में हैं। यहाँ हनुमान जी के लिए 'विरूपं' शब्द का प्रयोग हुआ है, जिसका अर्थ है 'विचित्र' या 'असामान्य रूप वाला'। चूँकि हनुमान जी ने अपना आकार बहुत बढ़ा लिया था और वे क्रोधित थे, इसलिए वे राक्षसियों को भयानक लग रहे थे। 'उपचक्रमुः' (आरम्भ किया) बताता है कि वे विवरण विस्तार से घटना का वर्णन करने जा रही हैं।
